Youth, Obesity and COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all of our lives. Although older people appear to be more severely affected, all age groups are susceptible to being infected. The pandemic may not pose as significant a health risk for children and young people but there are considerable risks related to for example, health disparities, education, employment and disposable income. There are also emerging findings that levels of overweight and obesity have increased over the period of the pandemic, with increased risk of increased severity of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations. Parents and children with overweight and obesity, need support from programs like MEND and others, more than ever.
